HISTORY OF OUR TOURS.
Over the early years that we were in Thailand we were visited many times by orchid enthusiasts whilst they were on holiday. Most of them were on 'package holidays' and had not been able to see any orchids growing in the wild, and they would frequently ask if we could show them orchids actually growing in their natural wild habitats. With this in mind we decided to put a trial tour together. This went so well that we decided to build on and expand the tour creating a specialised orchid-orientated holiday.
Our first official group tour was in the Spring of 1995 and we have been conducting two or three of these specialist tours every year since.
Having been established in Thailand since 1990 we have built up many useful contacts, which combined with our local up-to-date knowledge of northern Thai orchid habitats, enables us to offer a unique and specialised orchid-orientated holiday.
YOUR TOUR LEADER.
Peter Williams will be your tour leader and guide; Peter owns the nursery in Thailand and runs all aspects of Mae Tang Orchids.
Peter has been growing and studying Thai orchid species for over twenty five years and with his knowledge of the plants he will be able to identify most of the orchids seen on the tours, even when not in flower. He can speak Thai, which is essential to conducting a successful tour, and he knows the local customs, which helps to avoid any misunderstandings.
Peter has been leading and guiding these specialist tours for thirteen years and, having organised and led twenty one group tours, as well as seven personal individual tours, has the experience and knowledge to ensure everything runs smoothly.
OUR AIM.
To enable the average orchid enthusiast to visit a range of different orchid habitats where they can compare the climatic conditions, and observe the orchids growing in their natural wild state, at a time when a good number of them should be in flower.
Tour members will undertake several treks into orchid-rich areas, which we have discovered over the past thirteen years. Many of the trekking sites are unique to our tours and unknown to local tour operators. Whilst on the tours you will also be taken to orchid farms, local plant markets, Botanical Gardens and some of the many cultural attractions of Northern Thailand.
You will be met at the airport on arrival and escorted throughout the tour. We aim to make everything as easy and comfortable as possible for you. All you have to do is enjoy yourself!
